Flourishing: Those Who Hunger & Thirst for Righteousness

Veritas Community Church is a family of Christians that gather together every Lord’s Day morning to participate in the liturgy of God’s people.  Liturgy is simply what people do when they come together.  Our Gathered Worship Liturgy is modeled after what we see God’s people doing when they gather in the Bible which includes the public reading and preaching of Scripture, the administration of baptism and communion, and the response of God’s people in prayer and praise.

Since Veritas’ Sunday Gatherings are not a performance, but a participation of all people, we can all prepare for the Gathering by reviewing the liturgy ahead of time and praying that God would use it to build us up as his church.  We can also continue to worship God as a church throughout the week by participating in Family Worship and Private Worship in our homes, as outlined in their liturgies below.

Veritas Community Church continues worshiping God throughout the week in all aspects of our lives.  Family Worship is simply coming together for 10 minutes a day with those we live with to refocus our worship on God through the means of reading and praying the Bible that God has supplied.

What you can do:

1   READ Matthew 5:6 together.

2   PRAY in response to the text, or the prayer of the week from the Private Worship Liturgy (below).

3   ASK and answer question #23 in the New City Catechism.

4   SING the song ‘Before The Throne’

Before the throne of God above,
I have a strong and perfect plea,
A great High Priest whose name is Love
Who ever lives and pleads for me

My name is graven on His hands
My name is written on His heart
I know that while in heaven He stands,
No tongue can bid me thence depart,
No tongue can bid me thence depart

If you have more than 10 minutes, and would like to do more, you can:

• Discuss the sermon passage or points from the sermon
• Read other readings from the Gathered Worship Liturgy, or try to memorize them
• Pray for members of your household and your city group
• Pray for the Elders, and other members and attenders of Veritas
• Pray for neighbors and/or coworkers who have not yet heard the gospel
• Pray for nations that have unreached people groups
• Memorize the Catechism question and read from the New City Catechism devotional
• Memorize another catechism (Heidelberg, Westminster, North Star, Boys and Girls)
• Sing another song

We continue worshiping God as a church by devoting time each morning to reading and praying the Bible in private.  We can participate in this by following the readings and prayers found in Sunday's bulletin.

Father, we long for your kingdom and righteousness to cover the earth as the waters cover the sea. We long for the return of Jesus so that your perfect justice will prevail and permeate the entirety of your creation. And by the power and presence of the Holy Spirit, we now seek first your kingdom and righteousness in this broken and fallen world. Satisfy our hungry and thirsty souls, we pray; Amen.

Just a reminder that last week began Veritas Summer! From June-August, Veritas will be introducing some new learning and service opportunities, as well as scaling back in some areas in order to make space for these! We pray that the fruit of a simplified yet intentional summer will be refreshment within the body and growth in our witness to the surrounding community. Check out veritasdayton.org/summer for details!

  • Family Ministry Classes will be offered for ages 0-3 only (no 4-5 class)

  • City Groups will meet only on the first Sunday of the month (June 2, July 7, Aug 4)

We are excited to offer ways for you to serve your neighbors and our community this summer and we need your help! After the gathering today, we will hold a brief info meeting to outline our summer projects and how you can get involved. Whether you are a skilled woodworker, have a green thumb, like to cook, pickup trash, or want to get your kids involved in serving with you, we would love for you to join us for this info meeting. If you are not able to attend but are interested in getting involved, contact Deacon Mike Squire at mgsquire0404@gmail.com.

JUN 10-23 - TORNADO RELIEF DRIVe - Femme Aid

We will be collecting unopened feminine hygiene products from 6/10 to 6/23. There will be bins at church on 6/16 and 6/23, and bins on the Carsey’s porch during the week (843 Bowen St.). All donations will go toward tornado relief through the local nonprofit, Femme Aid Collaborative. Please email Emma (egcarsey@gmail.com) with any questions.

Join us as we continue meeting for frontline prayer to cry out to God for renewal in our church and in our city! We will meet at Bashar and Brittany Antoon’s home, 148 McClure St, Dayton, OH. Learn more at veritasdayton.org/frontline.

Our next quarterly member meeting will be held at Emerson in the gym, where we will share a potluck meal together and hear important updates from our elders and deacons.
