Walking in the Light

Veritas Community Church is a family of Christians that gather together every Lord’s Day morning to participate in the liturgy of God’s people.  Liturgy is simply what people do when they come together.  Our Gathered Worship Liturgy is modeled after what we see God’s people doing when they gather in the Bible which includes the public reading and preaching of Scripture, the administration of baptism and communion, and the response of God’s people in prayer and praise.

Since Veritas’ Sunday Gatherings are not a performance, but a participation of all people, we can all prepare for the Gathering by reviewing the liturgy ahead of time and praying that God would use it to build us up as his church.  We can also continue to worship God as a church throughout the week by participating in Family Worship and Private Worship in our homes, as outlined in their liturgies below.

When I Survey

Veritas Community Church continues worshiping God throughout the week in all aspects of our lives.  Family Worship is simply coming together for 10 minutes a day with those we live with to refocus our worship on God through the means of reading and praying the Bible that God has supplied.

What you can do:

1   READ 1 John 2:1-6 together

2   PRAY in response to the text, or the prayer of the week from the Private Worship Guide.

3   ASK and answer question #4 in the New City Catechism.

4   SING the song ‘Holy Holy Holy’

Holy Holy Holy, Lord God Almighty
Early in the morning, our song shall rise to Thee
Holy Holy Holy, merciful and mighty,
God in three persons, blessed Trinity

If you have more than 10 minutes, and would like to do more, you can:

• Discuss the sermon passage or points from the sermon
• Read other readings from the Gathered Worship Liturgy, or try to memorize them
• Pray for members of your household and your city group
• Pray for the Elders, and other members and attenders of Veritas
• Pray for neighbors and/or coworkers who have not yet heard the gospel
• Pray for nations that have unreached people groups
• Memorize the Catechism question and read from the New City Catechism devotional
• Memorize another catechism (Heidelberg, Westminster, North Star, Boys and Girls)
• Sing another song

We continue worshiping God as a church by devoting time each morning to reading and praying the Bible in private.  We can participate in this by following the readings and prayers found in Sunday's bulletin.

Prayer for the week: Almighty and ever-living God, in your tender love for the human race you sent your Son our Savior Jesus Christ to take upon him our nature, and to suffer death upon the cross, giving us the example of his great humility: Mercifully grant that we may walk in the way of his suffering, and also share in his resurrection; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

We will be sending out 2018 contribution statements over the next few weeks. If you moved this year, please ensure that you update your address in Giving Fire (https://veritasdayton.givingfire.com/) if you gave online, or email Josiah Stroh (josiahstroh@gmail.com) with your new address if you gave by check. Thank you for giving generously and sacrificially for His kingdom!

Veritas desires to grow in corporate prayer this year, so we are re-starting our practice of meeting for “Frontline Prayer.” Unlike needs-based maintenance prayer, frontline prayer seeks grace to humble ourselves, for compassion and zeal for the Church and its health and expansion, and for the yearning to know God and see his glory and his Kingdom come! While dates will change based on availability, our intent is to meet twice monthly, once in the morning and once in the evening. If you’re interested in partnering in this commitment by helping facilitate or host, please contact Bashar and Brittany Antoon. Learn more at: veritasdayton.org/frontline

MORNING: Wednesday, Feb 13, 6:30-7:15AM
EVENING: Thursday, Feb 28, 8:00-8:45PM
HOST: Bashar + Brittany Antoon
148 McClure St. Dayton, OH

Foundations Class is a great way to learn more about Veritas' beliefs and practice, and is also a prerequisite for covenant membership. If you’re interested in becoming a member, you will be able to sign up at the class to meet with an elder and be baptized (if you haven't already). Lunch and childcare will be provided, so please sign up by Feb 3rd at the following link so we know how many to expect: https://www.veritasdayton.org/foundations.
